Residential society security in Gurgaon and Delhi is frequently deployed in strength but rarely deployed in structure. Guard count is negotiated carefully; guard function is assumed. Gate management is the primary control and the most commonly degraded one. The main gate requires a guard whose sole function is verification, not one simultaneously operating the boom barrier, directing vehicles, receiving couriers and answering the intercom. A gate guard performing five functions is performing none of them properly during peak hours. Visitor verification should involve contacting the resident before admission, without exception and regardless of how confident the visitor appears. Societies that permit entry on the basis of a stated flat number have a register, not a control. Domestic staff and service personnel require a separate process with verified identity records, photograph on file and a pass system. This population moves through the society daily and is almost never verified after initial onboarding. Delivery personnel volumes have grown substantially and require a defined protocol, typically delivery to a collection point rather than door access, which also reduces lift congestion and resident complaints. Patrol discipline during night hours determines whether perimeter security exists. Checkpoints at the rear boundary, basement parking levels, terrace access and service areas, with logged verification, convert patrolling from a claim into a record. CCTV requires monitoring, not merely installation. A system recording to a DVR that nobody reviews provides post-incident evidence at best, which is a different service from prevention. Societies that document these functions in a written SOP, agreed with the agency and shared with residents, experience fewer disputes and better outcomes.
