The most frequent source of dispute in Indian facility management contracts is not quality. It is whether the people billed for were actually present. The traditional control is a muster register signed at the gate, which is a record of signatures rather than a record of attendance. Proxy marking is straightforward, widespread and difficult to disprove retrospectively. Biometric attendance addressed this effectively where deployed, though fingerprint recognition performs poorly with the hand condition common in housekeeping work, producing failure rates that create their own friction. Facial recognition with liveness detection has largely displaced fingerprint systems for this reason, with better accuracy in field conditions and no hygiene concern. Geofenced mobile attendance suits distributed deployments across multiple buildings or a campus, where a single fixed terminal creates queuing and travel time. The control depends on device-level restrictions to prevent a single phone marking multiple attendances. Whatever the method, the contractual mechanics matter more than the technology. The agreement should specify that billing is derived from the verified attendance record, that shortfall against contracted strength is deducted at a defined rate, and that the client has read access to the attendance system rather than receiving a monthly summary prepared by the contractor. A deduction formula agreed in advance converts a monthly argument into an arithmetic calculation. The secondary benefit is operational. Attendance data by shift and location reveals patterns, including which shifts and sites consistently run below strength, which is information the monthly invoice conceals.
