Security Services
Daytime inspections tell you almost nothing about how a site is actually guarded.
Any security deployment looks competent at 11 AM. Guards are alert, uniforms are pressed, registers are current and supervisors are present. The deployment that matters is the one at 2 AM on a Tuesday. The night shift is where security contracts quietly fail. Fatigue is real, supervision is thin, and the probability of being checked approaches zero at most sites. Gates get propped open. Patrol rounds get logged without being walked. Guards sleep. The correctives are unglamorous but effective. Patrol verification systems, whether NFC checkpoints or GPS-logged rounds, convert patrolling from a claim into a record. Checkpoints should be placed where a guard would not otherwise go, not at the convenient corners. Shift lengths deserve scrutiny. A twelve-hour night shift followed by a twelve-hour night shift is a fatigue problem regardless of what the roster claims. Agencies running 8-hour night rotations report measurably better alertness outcomes, though at higher cost. Surprise checks should be genuinely surprising. A supervisor who visits every site at 1 AM on schedule is running a predictable route that guards learn within a fortnight. Randomised timing and randomised sequence are what produce honest findings. Clients who conduct their own occasional night visits, unannounced and without informing the agency, learn more in one hour than from a year of monthly review meetings.
